PF2e Encounter XP Budget, at a Glance

The numbers a Pathfinder 2e GM looks up most often. Budgets are for a party of four; the third column is what each extra or missing player adds or subtracts.

Difficulty XP Budget (4 PCs) Per Extra Player
Trivial 40 XP +10 XP
Low 60 XP +20 XP
Moderate 80 XP +20 XP
Severe 120 XP +30 XP
Extreme 160 XP +40 XP

Creature costs run off level relative to the party: -4 is 10 XP, -3 is 15, -2 is 20, -1 is 30, party level is 40, +1 is 60, +2 is 80, +3 is 120, and +4 is 160. Open the encounter builder to spend a budget without doing the sums yourself.

What's in the PF2e Toolkit

Pathfinder 2e is a generous system for GMs in one specific way: it tells you the math. The trouble is that the math lives across four different tables in two books, and you usually need it about ninety seconds before the party kicks a door in. These PF2e tools put each of those tables one click away.

The encounter builder handles XP budgets and difficulty, and the hazard calculator folds traps into the same budget. Short on prep time? The random encounter generator builds whole compositions for a difficulty you pick, and the encounter adjuster nudges a fight you already have onto the budget you meant to hit.

At the table, the initiative tracker runs combat with all 39 conditions attached to the right combatants, the DC by level table answers the improvised skill check, and the strike calculator tells you whether that third attack is worth taking. Between sessions, the creature stats reference keeps homebrew NPCs on-curve and the XP calculator tracks the party toward their next level.

Every value is checked against the Archives of Nethys , the official Pathfinder 2e reference, so the XP budgets, DCs, and creature statistics match the rulebooks. New to encounter building? The GM guide walks through the whole system in one sitting.
