Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is the encounter calculator?
The encounter calculator uses the official XP budget system from the Pathfinder 2e GM Core. All XP values and difficulty thresholds match the rules exactly. However, actual encounter difficulty can vary based on party composition, tactics, terrain, and GM style.
Where does the data come from?
All game data is sourced from Archives of Nethys, the official Pathfinder 2e reference. This includes XP budgets, DC tables, creature stats, conditions, and treasure values.
Does the toolkit save my data?
Yes, most tools save data locally in your browser using localStorage. This means your encounters, initiative trackers, and XP logs persist between sessions. Data is stored only on your device and is never sent to a server.
Can I use this for Pathfinder 1e?
No, this toolkit is specifically designed for Pathfinder 2nd Edition (PF2e). The encounter building system, XP budgets, and difficulty calculations are completely different between editions.
How do I adjust for party size?
The encounter calculator automatically adjusts XP thresholds based on party size. Just set the number of players in the party settings. For parties smaller or larger than 4, the difficulty thresholds scale appropriately.
What's the difference between creatures and hazards?
Both use the same XP system, but hazards include traps, haunts, and environmental dangers. Use the Encounter Calculator for creature-only encounters, or the Hazard Calculator to mix creatures and hazards.
How many encounters should I plan per session?
A typical adventuring day includes 4-6 moderate encounters or 2-3 severe encounters. Extreme encounters should be rare climactic battles. Use the XP Tracker to log encounters and see how quickly your party levels.
Can I export or share my encounters?
Currently, the toolkit doesn't have built-in export or sharing features. Data is stored locally in your browser. You can manually copy encounter details or take screenshots to share with your group.
Is this toolkit free?
Yes, all tools are completely free to use with no ads or premium features. The toolkit is built as a resource for the Pathfinder 2e community.
I found a bug or have a suggestion. How do I report it?
